BOTON High-Performance Fabric Pipe Conveyor Belt Powers Green Sea-Crossing Transshipment for Lafarge Langkawi Cement Plant

Achieving "Zero Dust, Zero Pollution" in a World-Renowned Scenic Destination via Enclosed Handling Technology

BOTON High-Performance Fabric Pipe Conveyor Belt Powers Green Sea-Crossing Transshipment for Lafarge Langkawi Cement Plant

Core Achievements

Eco-Friendly Conveying Benchmark

Enabled completely enclosed material transshipment in the scenic destination of Langkawi using advanced pipe conveyor technology, successfully protecting the local natural ecosystem.

Sea-Crossing Transshipment Hub

Seamlessly connected the coastal cement plant to its private jetty, ensuring highly efficient outbound shipping of cement and concrete.

Cost-Efficient Infrastructure

Utilized exceptional spatial curving capabilities to bypass multiple transfer stations, shortening the conveying distance and drastically slashing initial civil construction and procurement costs.

Langkawi, recognized as the "Pearl of the Strait of Malacca," is famous for its breathtaking natural scenery(). Nestled on its coastline sits a vital production hub for the Lafarge Group (subsequently acquired by YTL Cement), which serves as a crucial pillar of the local economy.

The primary challenge of this coastal plant was balancing high-volume annual cement and concrete production with environmental stewardship. It was mandatory that material transport from the plant to the private jetty caused zero dust pollution to the surrounding turquoise waters and lush islands. To address this, BOTON deployed its specialized pipe conveyor system to secure an efficient, environmentally compliant logistics lifeline.

Project Challenges

Stringent Environmental Standards

Located in a renowned tourist resort, traditional troughed conveyors would cause flying dust and material spillage, which wastes resources and severely threatens Langkawi’s pristine ecosystem.

Complex Coastal Environment

The conveyor route is laid out along the coastline, demanding high resistance against severe coastal corrosion, high humidity, and high salinity.

Material Handling Stability

Cement materials feature small particle sizes, high fluidity, and extreme susceptibility to moisture, placing rigorous demands on the sealing performance and systemic stability of the conveyor belt.

BOTON Solution

BOTON Solution

Enclosed Pipe Conveyor Technology

BOTON deployed its self-developed pipe conveyor belt, utilizing a six-idler configuration to force the belt into a sealed cylindrical tube. This structure completely encloses materials within the belt during transit, eliminating material spillage and dust emissions at the source.

Structural & Material Optimization

Because pipe belts frequently transition between a flat form and a cylindrical tube, BOTON optimized the belt core's transverse rigidity and longitudinal flexibility. This prevents the belt from flipping, twisting, or distorting during high-speed, long-distance operations.
